My Approach to Therapy

Existential Phenomenology & Compassion

My therapeutic approach is rooted in Existential Phenomenology, which focuses on understanding human experience, emotions, and behavior in the context of individual lives. I aim to create a warm, inclusive, and culturally sensitive space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to make meaningful changes in your life. Together, we explore the existential questions and challenges that shape how you experience the world and respond to your circumstances. In therapy, we will work to:

  • Understand your emotions and responses without judgment
  • Accept the full range of your feelings, even when they are difficult or complex
  • Explore meaning and purpose, especially when facing life’s most difficult moments
  • Foster healing and self-compassion, especially in response to trauma
My Specializations

Who I Work With

I provide individual and couples counseling for adults aged 18 and older, with a strong focus on integrating a social justice framework and cultural humility into our work together. I also work with adolescents aged 13 and older in individual therapy, offering a space that values and respects each person’s identity and lived experiences:

Individual therapy provides a confidential and non-judgmental space for self-exploration. Together, we’ll work to better understand your emotions, patterns, and struggles. Using an existential and trauma-informed approach, I help you gain insight into your thoughts and behaviors, with the aim of fostering personal growth, healing, and meaningful change.

In individual therapy, we will work on:

  • Navigating life transitions
  • Exploring emotional patterns and past experiences
  • Managing anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges
  • Finding purpose and meaning in life’s struggles
  • Healing from trauma and emotional wounds

Relationships can be a source of deep fulfillment but can also present significant challenges. In couples therapy, I help partners improve communication, resolve conflicts, and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships. My approach integrates Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which focuses on strengthening emotional bonds and creating a safe space for vulnerability.

In couples therapy, we will work on:

  • Improving communication and understanding
  • Addressing conflicts and disagreements
  • Rebuilding trust and intimacy
  • Managing relationship stress and anxiety
  • Supporting both partners in their individual and shared growth

I also offer individual therapy for adolescents (ages 13 and up) who are navigating the complexities of adolescence. My approach respects the unique identity and lived experience of each adolescent while helping them manage stress, anxiety, and any challenges related to mental health. Whether it’s dealing with school, relationships, family dynamics, or self-esteem, therapy provides a valuable tool for personal growth.

In adolescent therapy, we focus on:

  • Building healthy coping skills
  • Managing academic and social stress
  • Navigating relationships with family and peers
  • Addressing self-esteem and body image issues
  • Overcoming anxiety, depression, or trauma

Session Information & Getting Started

Together, we will explore the existential questions and challenges that influence how you perceive the world and navigate your circumstances. This collaborative process is designed to create a meaningful foundation for our work together.

To support this journey, here’s how therapy with me is structured:

  • I typically see clients at the same time/day each week, ensuring a consistent therapeutic experience.
  • Sessions are 50 minutes and scheduled weekly unless otherwise arranged. Weekly commitment is therapeutically important at the start of therapy, though the frequency may shift as needed.
